Pickering, ON, January 17, 2013 — The Business and Professional Women of Durham (BPW Durham), the local chapter of The Business and Professional Women of Canada (BPW Canada), is pleased to announce their Nominees for the High Heels in High Places Awards. In celebration of BPW Durham’s 25th Anniversary, we will be recognizing women, well-known and up-and-coming, who are making a difference in Durham Region, at our gala luncheon. MC’d by Carolyn Ellis of KX96FM, our luncheon is from Noon to 3PM on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Abilities Centre, 55 Gordon Street in Whitby, ON.

Our Honourees will be chosen by a selection committee made up of BPW members from across Ontario.

Business/Corporate Nominees:

Lorelei Hepburn – Environmental Factor, Betty Penny – Penny and Associates and Heather MacMIllan – Durham Workforce Authority

Community Activism Nominees:

Mary Bone – Habitat for Humanity, Yvette Nechvatal-Drew – Girls Inc., Esther Enyolu –  Women’s Multicultural Centre, Eva Reti – Durham Regional Police Services, and Arifa Ghaffar – Equity and Diversity Spokesperson and Teacher –  Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board

Political Nominees:

Nancy Diamond – Oshawa Regional Councillor, Amy England – Oshawa Regional Councillor and Jennifer O’Connell – Pickering Regional Councillor

BPW Durham Founding Member Honourees:

The day will begin with a two-hour Thinking on Your Feet — Heels Optional workshop from 10AM to Noon facilitated by Stephanie Herrera of Durham Improv. The workshop will be followed our High Heels in High Places luncheon. Registration for both events is $100. To register, please go to

The Business and Professional Women of Durham advocates for women’s issues and improving the status of women in business, the professions and in industry. We do this by creating connections, offering forums for discussion and debate of current issues of concern, as well as providing methods of positive change through our community, our provincial, national, and international BPW Chapters. BPW Durham offers members the opportunity to develop leadership skills, and relationships, both personal and professional.
